NEW LIMERICK, Maine — Over the last few months a fundraiser has been underway for the Paul D. Madigan Memorial Fund.

We have a “thermometer” in the clubhouse now to show the progress of this campaign, and as of Sunday evening we have raised more than $137,000 of our goal to reach $175,000. Proceeds from the fund will be used to make capital improvements to the golf course, replace old golf course equipment and to erect a permanent bench on the course to honor Paul’s memory.

Payments will also be used to continue the successful Golf for Life Program, which has graduated about one quarter of our current membership and has been integral in resurrecting our once-emaciated membership to a healthy level.

You can make your pledge and/or payment for any amount by going to, and mail with your check or pledge. Pledge forms are also available in the pro shop.

This Saturday we will be hosting the first annual Mid-Summer Dream 4-Person Scramble. Please call the clubhouse or email to sign up. The next event on our calendar is The annual County Open Golf Tournament. This will be an 18-hole tournament held on Aug. 7.   For a listing of all upcoming events, please visit

This year we have seen more than 50 new members join the course. We have seen an increase in play during all times of day. With that in mind, we would like to encourage everyone to keep “pace of play” especially during busy times. Please keep up with the group in front of you. If your group is unable to keep up please pick up and move on the next hole. This will allow for everyone to keep playing without enduring long waits in between shots.

The Lakeside Restaurant is open for lunch Friday and Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Dinner schedule is Wednesday-Saturday 4-8 p.m. (last seating). The ever-popular Sunday Brunch is from 10:30-2:30 (last seating).  Please call Nancy at 207-694-9494 to book your reservation.

Houlton Community Golf Course is located on 6 Country Club Drive in New Limerick. For more information on the course call 532-2662, email or visit their website
