PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Police were called to Dupont Drive in Presque Isle on the morning of Aug. 8 to a report of someone with a loaded assault rifle in the area.

Police spent the day trying to find the rifle, believing the person involved had hidden the gun somewhere in nearby bushes.

In addition to Dupont Drive, police also warned residents on the nearby streets of Harvest Lane and Mantle Lake Park to be on the lookout for the gun.

The person was taken into custody, but charges had not been determined by Sunday evening. The rifle was located and handed over to police, although authorities did not say how that came about.

The Presque Isle Police Department would not give any other details, citing an ongoing investigation, but confirmed that no one was injured.
