HOULTON, Maine — The fall soccer season is now a fond memory for local high school teams, but the action is not over just yet.
Because this year’s playoff format features an open tournament policy, every team is eligible for an additional game, called a “play-in” game. The winner of that game will then advance to the preliminary round of the postseason.
The following is a breakdown of County playoff games over the next few days:
On Wednesday, Oct. 20, No. 17 Deer Isle-Stonington boys play at No. 16 Washburn at 3 p.m.
Thursday’s play-in games feature: No. 18 Jonesport-Beals boys at No. 15 Maine School Science and Mathematics, 4 p.m.; No. 17 Lee Academy girls at No. 15 MSSM, 6 p.m.; No. 17 East Grand girls at No. 16 Washburn, 2 p.m.; No. 19 Southern Aroostook boys at No. 14 Central Aroostook, 6 p.m.; No. 20 East Grand boys at No. 12 Katahdin, 3 p.m.; and No. 14 Easton girls at No. 3 Ashland, 5 p.m.
On Friday, the preliminary playoffs begin with the following games on the schedule: No. 13 Katahdin girls at No. 4 Madawaska, 2:30 p.m.; No. 12 Schenck boys at No. 5 Madawaska, 5 p.m.; No. 14 Katahdin boys at No. 3 Wisdom, 3 p.m.; No. 15 Mattanawcook Academy boys at No. 3 Fort Kent, 5 p.m.; No. 15 Penquis girls at No. 2 Fort Kent, 7 p.m.; No. 13 Central Aroostook boys at No. 4 Van Buren, 7 p.m.; No. 11 Fort Fairfield boys at No. 6 Easton, 5:30 p.m.; No. 12 Bangor Christian girls at No. 5 Fort Fairfield, 3:20 p.m.; No. 10 Woodland boys at No. 7 Hodgdon, 3:30 p.m.; No. 11 Central Aroostook girls at No. 6 Southern Aroostook, 2:30 p.m.; No. 14 Houlton boys at No. 3 Mt. View (Thorndike) at 3 p.m.; No. 13 Caribou at No. 4 Winslow, 3 p.m.; and No. 15 Caribou boys at No. 2 Winslow, 6 p.m. (game at Colby College).
On Saturday, Oct. 23, the schedule includes: No. 16 Washburn girls at No. 1 Wisdom, 11 a.m.; No. 10 Woodland girls at No. 7 Hodgdon, noon; and No. 12 George Stevens Academy girls at No. 5 Houlton, 1 p.m.
Also in Class B North, the Presque Isle boys finished as the No. 1 seed with a 11-0-1 record, while Presque Isle girls were 14th at 3-11. The date and opponents for those games were not immediately available.
