HOULTON, Maine — The Miss Shiretown pageant will return to the stage of the Houlton Community Arts Center in January.

It will be the first time that contestants have been able to compete in Houlton since 2019. The March 2020 pageant was postponed until May 16, 2021, but was moved to the Caribou Inn and Convention Center where it was combined with the Miss Aroostook County Pageant.

“We are excited to announce that Miss Shiretown Pageant is partnering up with Miss Northeast Maine Pageant to hold a winter-themed pageant on Jan. 16 at Houlton Middle-High School,” said pageant organizer Lori Soucy. “Contestants will have double the opportunity to win their way to the Maine Academic Scholarship pageant.”

Miss Shiretown has officially become a preliminary to the Maine Academic Scholarship Pageant. There are seven divisions for different ages: Young Princess, 4-6; Princess, 7-9; Preteen, 10-12; Young Teen, 13-15; Teen, 16-19; Miss, 20-24; and Ms., 25-and-older.

Teen and Miss Divisional winners will have opportunities to win college scholarships at the Maine Academic Scholarship Pageant and the Miss Divisional winner will have the chance to win a car if she wins Miss Maine.

“At this time we are able to invite the community to come watch the pageant,” Soucy said. “On the day of the pageant contestants and their moms or backstage helpers will have to show proof of a negative COVID test in order to participate.”

Tickets for the event will be $10 per person or $30 for a family of four.  All audience members will have to wear a mask while at the pageant. Registration is due by Dec. 27. Contestants can register online at www.crowncares.org or by contacting Soucy at aroostookcountypageants@gmail.com
