PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Wintergreen Arts Center will host a student art show during the month of May. The opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 6, during Presque Isle’s First Friday Art Walk.
The show features artwork created by students in Wintergreen’s After School Arts Program. In March and April, students in kindergarten through the third grade focused on animal-themed artwork while students in grades 4 through 8 worked on expressive arts projects.
“Giving students an opportunity to share their artwork is important,” said Kara Addington, Wintergreen’s center manager. “It gives them individual goals to work towards and our group art projects allow the entire class to collaborate together and show off their creativity.”
Wintergreen’s After School Arts Program is organized in five, six-week sessions. The spring session runs from May 2 through June 9, when students will dive into spring art projects including garden rocks and coil pots for the younger group while the older students focus on flower expressions, photo transfer self-portraits, and more.
Wintergreen’s After School and Summer Arts Programs are in partnership with the City of Presque Isle Rec Department and are funded in part by grants from the Davis Family Foundation, Maine Community Foundation, Onion Foundation, and the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.
The student art show is free and open to the public.
