PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Danny Gahagan, a firefighter/paramedic with Presque Isle Fire and Rescue, recently received am EMS Merit Award for Region 5.
The award was formally given on June 29 via Zoom to Gahagan by Maine Emergency Medical Services Director Sam Hurley.
This award is for EMS personnel for contributions to the system at the local and regional levels. Gahagan’s award recognizes his dedication to teaching and his professionalism when responding to emergency calls.
Gahagan has been working for the Presque Isle Fire Department since 2017. He is an emergency medical services instructor, teaching EMT basic through paramedic courses.
Gahagan has been teaching all of the Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) courses, saving the department both time and money.
He also oversees the department’s quality assurance/quality improvement program.
