Betschner receives state Custodian of the Year award

DYER BROOK, Maine – Southern Aroostook Community School announced that the Educational Plant Maintenance Association (EPMA) of Maine has chosen Robert Betschner as this year’s “Custodian of the Year.”

The criteria for the award is for a custodial/maintenance employee who is recognized for exemplary job performance; is passionate about maintaining and operating the school building to ensure clean, safe and healthy learning and working environments; and serves as a role model for students. 

The nominee will obviously be a dedicated employee who is known for going the extra mile to help students, staff and visitors to the facility.  

“Robert is well deserving of this award,” Superintendent Jon Porter said. “Robert not only does custodial and maintenance duties, he drives school bus when needed, and has coached various athletic teams including middle school baseball and high school softball.  As a high school softball coach, Robert’s teams had great success with his team competing in four regional championship games.”

Robert goes above and beyond to help students and staff and is a positive role model for students in the building and an informal school leader demonstrated through his strong work ethic and positive interactions.  Congratulations Rob!!

Betschner will be recognized at an award ceremony in the Fall of 2022 coordinated by SACSl and the Burleigh Oxton Award committee.

In addition, Betschner is the recipient of the A. Burleigh Oxton Award for Excellence. As the recipient of this award, Betschner, will receive a plaque and a $1,500 college scholarship that will be awarded in his name to a deserving graduate in their district.
