115 Years Ago – Aug. 15, 1907

Adding on to the business — The L. J. Sherwood Co. has decided to add a boot and shoe department to their already large stock. They have engaged an experienced and competent manager and salesman for this department, Wallace E. Clark, who will begin work next week.

On a trip and gone for two weeks — Russell Ryder, clerk in John Garden’s grocery store, and Nathan Currier, employed in Frank Riley’s grocery, started Monday on a trip to New York City and Washington, D.C., expecting to be gone for about two weeks.

100 Years Ago – Aug. 17, 1922

Law offices are moving — W.R. Lumbert is moving his law office from the Mitton, Poland & Bishop block to the Hackett block on Sweden Street, rooms formerly occupied by Dr. Barrett. Telephone 408-4.

Anticipates larger business — G.B. Buck, who has been an agent for a couple of years for the Hupmobile auto, has associated with him in the business his two sons, and now anticipates doing a larger business than ever.

75 Years Ago – Aug. 14, 1947

Money raised for the athletic field — An athletic field unparalleled by any in the state of Maine is to be constructed in Caribou in the coming fall and spring. The new project is under the sponsorship of the Caribou Athletic Association, which is working in close cooperation with the town council and the recreation committee of this town. The location of the proposed field is at Teague Park. $12,600 has already been raised for the new $25,000 Caribou Athletic Field.

25 Years Ago – Aug. 13, 1997

Martz to purchase WOZI — Tim Martz, president of Martz Communication Group, whose Four Seasons Communications subsidiary is licensee of WQHR (Q 96.1) and WBPW (Hot Country 97) in Presque Isle, recently announced the signing of an agreement to purchase WOZI-FM 101.7 (country format KIXX 103) in Presque Isle from Media Marketing Inc. Martz Communications Group operates 15 radio stations and one TV station in Maine, New York, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Deputy honored — Aroostook County Sheriff Ted St. Pierre and Caribou Fire and Ambulance Chief Roy Woods presented a plaque to Deputy Daniel Robertson of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department for his extraordinary effort on behalf of Caribou citizens. Woods said Robertson has helped his department in a number of situations including traffic control and has been a real asset. “We wanted to give him something to show our appreciation,” Woods said.
