HOULTON, Maine — Cross Country runners from Fort Kent and the Limestone/Maine School of Science and Mathematics joined the Houlton-Greater Houlton Christian Academy for an unseasonably warm race Tuesday afternoon.
With temperatures in the mid-80s and high humidity, it was not ideal conditions for running, but that did not stop the athletes from putting on impressive displays.
“We had a wonderful day today hosting the first meet of the Aroostook League schedule,” Houlton coach Chris Rines said. “Although it was quite hot, all the runners did amazing and our Houlton/GHCA athletes did quite well.”
The Shire girls were uncontested on the day, as Fort Kent did not have enough runners to score as a team. MSSM did not have any female runners at Tuesday’s race.
On the boys side, MSSM edged the Shires by two points to win the meet with a score of 27. Houlton-GHCA was second with 29 points. Fort Kent did not have enough boys for team scoring.
