DYER BROOK, Maine — Southern Aroostook and Katahdin met Tuesday afternoon to renew their boys and girls soccer rivalries, with each school coming away with a shutout victory.

The Southern Aroostook girls rolled to a 6-0 victory over Katahdin, while the Cougar boys beat SA 4-0.

In the girls contest, Southern Aroostook (1-1) opted to play with just nine players, to even the playing field for visiting Katahdin (0-2), which only has nine players on its team.

Cami Shields led the Warriors with a hat trick on the day, scoring three of her team’s six goals. Emmalee Landry, Madison Russell and Jennah Brooks also had solo goals, while Russell added two assists and Brooks had one assist.

Katahdin goalie Emma Schmidt had a busy day in goal, notching 30 saves. Libby Anderson had nine saves to preserve the shutout for the Warriors.

“Southern Aroostook communicated well on the field tonight,” coach Jessica Nye said. “Seniors Madison Russell and Jennah Brooks talked the girls through passing up the field and seeing their options. This allowed them to maintain good possession of the ball, have clean passes, and good shots on goal.”
