HOULTON, Maine – Those interested in learning more about the tribal ways of the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians will have to wait an additional week.

On Friday, the tribe announced it was postponing its 42nd annual Recognition Day celebration because of the forecasted high winds associated with tropical storm Florence.

The celebration will instead be held next weekend, Saturday, Oct. 1 at the tribal lands on the Bell Road. The full slate of activities originally planned, will take place that day. A sweat lodge will also be held Friday, Sept. 30.
