PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Wintergreen Arts Center will host an auction of more than two dozen art pieces donated by James Carroll, owner of Morningstar Art & Framing in Presque Isle.
The opening reception is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 6 at 6 p.m. during Presque Isle’s First Friday Art Walk.
The idea for an art auction started when James Carroll found art in the back room of his shop that he wanted to return to its owners. He knew a few of the pieces belonged to Wintergreen Arts Center and this is where his entrepreneurial spirit kicked in. Carroll saw an opportunity to help Wintergreen.
By donating some pieces from his shop, as well as some art pieces from his personal collection, Carroll thought Wintergreen could hold an art auction and share more art with the community.
When asked why he decided Wintergreen was the right place for this idea, Carroll said,
“Wintergreen has always provided art [opportunities] to this community for not only adults but youth.
“I feel that youth are the future, and I also believe that art, literature, and culture are not only important to our community, but to us as a society.”
Framing remains the heart and soul of Morningstar Art & Framing. Carroll also specializes in metaphysical supplies too. Crystals, herbs, essential oils, books, incense, and more.
“James is doing great things in our community,” said Gretchen Violette, Wintergreen’s events coordinator. “He listens to clients, talks to artists, and puts a lot of thought into the services and products he offers at Morningstar.
“We’re very fortunate to have his energy and creativity at Wintergreen.”
