50 Years Ago — February 8, 1973

    New addition to Madawaska — Louis Cyr, Madawaska Town Manager, received the keys to the new ambulance from Sister Jeannine Daigle, Executive Director at People’s Benevolent Hospital. Present was Romeo Daigle, town councilman.

25 Years Ago — February 11, 1998

District awards outstanding farmer — The St. John Valley Soil and Water Conservation District had its award presentation in January of 1998 board meeting. After a meal at Tang’s Place in Madawaska, the following award was presented. Pierre Laplante of Hamlin was chosen as the 1997 Outstanding Cooperator. Laplante Farms is a beef feedlot operation located off Rte. 1A. The farm utilizes rotational grazing and other conservation practices to maximize the productivity of its grassland, and also utilizes cull potatoes as a supplemental feed source.

10 Years Ago — February 6, 2013 

Generations ready to roar at Lion show — For nearly 20 consecutive years, the Fort Kent Lions Club had put on their annual springtime variety show that regularly filled Fox Auditorium every April, for two or three shows. That run came to an end in 1000 when the organization decided that would be the final show, at least for the time being. This year in 2013, the performance will happen and the club has begun the process of coming up with fun skits to perform.
