FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — A longtime Fort Fairfield teacher has been named principal of the town’s middle and high school.

Garrett Martin will begin his new duties July 1. He will replace outgoing principal Tanya Staples.

SAD 20’s board of directors voted to appoint Staples last month. She will assume the roles of superintendent and curriculum director after the departure of Superintendent Tim Doak.

“Garrett is a forward thinker when it comes to education and has built many connections through the years with students, families, staff and community members,” Staples said. “His dedication will serve him well as he steps into this new leadership role.”

Martin lives in Fort Fairfield and has taught social studies at Fort Fairfield Middle High School for the past 17 years. He has served as National Honor Society adviser and chair of the school’s social studies department and professional development and growth committee.

Martin has been president and chief negotiator of the Fort Fairfield Teachers Association and a board member of the Frontier Fish & Game Club.

“My family and I have been incredibly fortunate to become part of the Fort Fairfield community,” Martin said. “I’m honored to have the opportunity to serve as the next middle high school principal.”
