PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Wintergreen Arts Center recently received a $10,000 grant from the Maine Community Foundation for general support to provide quality, affordable arts programming in Aroostook County.

This grant is made in part from the Aroostook County Fund of the Maine Community Foundation at the recommendation of the Aroostook County Committee Advisors.

“Maine Community Foundation is an amazing organization,” said Dottie Hutchins, Wintergreen’s executive director. “Their support helps us empower local youth, adults, and families to connect and express themselves through the arts.”

Two Wintergreen initiatives supported by the Maine Community Foundation include Wintergreen Kids News Network and Expressive Arts Therapy Applications with a local registered art therapist and mental health counselor.

Wintergreen Kids News Network, real news by real kids about things happening in Aroostook County, helps students build confidence through digital storytelling. Video clips are shared on Wintergreen’s website, YouTube channel, and through social media.

Expressive Arts Therapy Applications with Shelby Pelletier, LCPC ATR, helps Wintergreen’s teachers better engage the arts and creative process in supporting the mental wellness of their students through therapeutic techniques.

“When it comes to support, funding is only one part of the equation,” Dottie added. “Maine Community Foundation truly cares about the people of Maine. They listen and understand what it takes to build strong communities.”

The Maine Community Foundation brings people and resources together to build a better Maine through strategic giving, community leadership, personalized service, local expertise and strong investments. To learn more about the foundation, visit www.mainecf.org.
