Feed The County 150 Family Fun Day slated July 1 at Spud Speedway

The Fourth Annual Feed The County 150 celebration will take place Saturday, July 1, at Spud Speedway in Caribou.

While the inclement weather forecast for Sunday has postponed Sunday’s scheduled racing events until Sept. 23, Saturday’s full roster of family fun will be held as scheduled.

The gates open at 3 p.m. with family events and activities, including bounce houses, and inflatable obstacle course, games, monster truck rides, a motor cycle show, food trucks and more.

At 6 p.m., Star City Syndicate will perform, and at 9 p.m. there will be a fireworks display.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a camp chair and/or blanket for enjoying the band and fireworks.

All events take place at Spud Speedway, 209 Thompson Rd., Caribou.

For more than 20 years, Feed The County has been a collaborative mission of Aroostook Savings & Loan, WAGM-TV and Catholic Charities Maine to increase awareness of hunger challenges facing the County’s communities. Catholic Charities Maine’s Hunger & Relief Services operates two food banks that supply more than 28 food pantries in northern Maine, serving more than 33,000 people annually.

In addition, the Farm for ME program grows and gleans fresh vegetables from our local farming partners to ensure our neighbors have access to healthy, nutritious food.

Now in its fourth year, the Feed The County 150 fundraising event expanded to provide more family activities. This year’s event will also celebrate the life and legacy of John Swanberg, a founding creator of the Feed The County initiative. Swanberg was president of Aroostook Savings & Loan until he died in December, and his memory lives on in his tireless dedication to the community and efforts to lifting up the people of Aroostook County.

“In 2022, CCM fed 33,060 individuals in Northern Maine, and with the increased cost of living and current economic uncertainties, the need has never been greater to help ensure every neighbor has enough to eat,” said Dixie Shaw, director, Hunger & Relief Services. “We feel blessed to have so much community support and to be able to put on this incredible Feed the County 150 celebration for the region. There will be monster trucks, motorcycles, games, food trucks, a beer garden, music, and so much more. The County has never seen anything like this, and all proceeds go toward our efforts to fight food insecurity.”
