50 Years Ago — Oct. 3, 1973

  75 percent completed – Seventy-five percent of the new terminal hangar construction at Frenchville’s Municipal Airport is completed as of Oct. 1, 1973. Officials noted that a lack of materials curtailed construction of the building in mid summer. Officials also hope to have the building closed in “in a couple of weeks”, and able to occupy the terminal office area in about one month. 

25 Years Ago — Oct. 7, 1998

Martin appointed president of Fraser Papers – Bert Martin is not quite ready to exchange his Harley Davidson for a corporate jet, but the newly appointed president of Fraser does expect to spend a great deal of time traveling between Madawaska and corporate headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. The announcement of Martin’s appointment as president of Fraser Papers came on a Thursday morning in 1998 which included the announcement of his additional appointment as senior vice president of Fraser’s parent company Noranda Forest Inc.

10 Years Ago — Oct. 9, 2013 

Quilters donate quilts — The Northern Neighbors Quilters visited residents at Forest Hill Rehabilitation and Nursing Skilled Center on Sept. 12, 2013. Since last November, the quilters have worked on a lap-size quilt for each of the 45 residents at Forest Hill. Most fabric was donated. No two quilts were alike. The group includes 25 women who meet monthly. Some of the women in the group include Vilet Harvey, Eleanor Cyr, Lee Soucie, Marlene Pooler, Darlene Martin, Nancy Pelleter, LouAnn Watt, Greta Jalbert and Christy Plourde.
