50 Years Ago — October 10, 1973

  Parent appointed Postmaster – Authorities this week announced the appointment of Lawrence Parent as postmaster for Madawaska. The appointment became effective Saturday, Oct. 6, 1973. Parent, officer in charge at the Madawaska facility for the past five months, succeeds former postmaster, Raoul Cyr, who retired in June of 1972.  A lifetime resident of Lille, Parent is married and has five children.

25 Years Ago — October 14, 1998

Donation resurrects roof repair – When Don Cyr, director of the Centre culturel du Mont-Carmel, lost a large sum of money last summer, it looked as though the center’s roof restoration project would be placed on indefinite hold. But, thanks to some media generated publicity, a new roof is all but complete and paid for with a combination of private donations and a foundation grant and Cyr was all smiles last week watching the work’s progress.

10 Years Ago — October 16, 2013 

Retired teacher gives her all — A retired elementary school teacher has donated 45 years worth of her own teaching supplies to the Fort Kent Recreation Department for local children to use. Total value of her donation? More than $6,000 so far, and more to come. Pat Richard retired from teaching at the Fort Kent Elementary School at the end of the 2012-2013 school year, and has given nearly all of her teaching supplies to the recreation department.
