Pressing on

On behalf of the Board of Directors for the Central Aroostook Humane Society and our dedicated staff, we want to thank you for your generous support for our new animal shelter.  Because of you, we have raised more than $760,000.  We appreciate every gift you have given no matter the size.

We are now hoping to be able to break ground in January, which means we should be able to move into the new facility in the spring of 2024.  Needless to say, we are very excited.

Recently the state fire marshal examined our blueprints and told us that by state law we must install a fire sprinkler system which will protect the animals and the staff in case of a fire in the building.  This was not expected and, unfortunately, not in the original plans. This change does not come cheaply.  We have been told by the contractors that the sprinkler system will cost an additional $123,000.

We were shocked, but we are determined to continue to raise funds for the new shelter.  We have applied for and received some good-sized grants and have also been doing many fundraising activities, but we need your help in meeting our goal.  To be honest, without our community’s continued generosity we will have difficulty meeting our financial goal.

Donations of any size are greatly appreciated and may be sent to the Central Aroostook Humane Society, 24 Cross St., Presque Isle ME 04769.

As you prepare for the Christmas holidays, please remember us and our four-legged friends with a monetary donation. We would be so appreciative and it will help us make the new shelter a reality.

Again, thank you for your support.  You are the best and we wish you and your families the happiest of holidays.

With thanks from the Central Aroostook Humane Society shelter staff: Betsy Hallett, Coral Rose, Sharon Brown and Lori and Keifer Holton.

And thanks from the society’s board of directors: Christine Robinson, president; Christine Standefer, vice president; Rose Fraser, treasurer; Gloria J. Towle, secretary; Carolyn Cheney, Gail Wieder, Kim Field, Mitch Guiggey, Beth Doyen, Brenda Barker, Nita Therriault, Janice Footer and Elaine Littlefield.
