Foster Care Backpack Program receives items

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 136 in Stockholm along with the assistance of the University of Maine Extension Homemakers of New Sweden collected items for “The Foster Care Backpack Program”. This is a program that is set up with DHHS and counts on the support of local donations for support. When a child is removed from their home, usually for safety reasons, a child is placed in foster care and leaves the home with nothing. Backpacks are made up from these donations (backpacks included) for the appropriate age of the child. These backpacks can include a toy, a stuffed animal, hairbrush, blanket, pajamas, slippers and many other items, so the child has something that will be theirs’ and they can keep. It is to make the transition a little easier for the children. Many boxes and backpacks were donated from these two organizations for this great cause.
