50 Years Ago — Jan. 3, 1974

  Society donates boxes – In the spirit of giving, the St. Vincent de Paul Society made seventy families much happier this Christmas by distributing food boxes to needy elderly in the Van Buren community, Dec. 23, 1974. This annual project was made possible by public donations and Society funds raised by various activities during the year. The members are very grateful to the many who supported this project.

25 Years Ago — Jan. 6, 1999

New year baby – Trevor Cody Bouchard was the first St. John Valley baby of 1999 born at Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent, entering the world at 3:45 a.m. Jan.2. Weighing in at 6-pounds-5-ounces, he is the son of Donna and Andrew Bouchard and the brother of Shane Bouchard, all of Fort Kent.

10 Years Ago — Jan. 1, 2014 

Firefighter Richard Cyr visits La Maternelle — The students at La Maternelle French Preschool in Frenchville received a visit in November of 2014 from Madawaska firefighter Richard Cyr, who talked to the students about fire safety as part of Fire Safety Month. Students ages 3-5 have been learning colors, shapes, numbers, alphabet, and opposites, along with skills and French songs. They are from the Fort Kent area, Frenchville, Madawaska and St. Agatha.
