Appreciates LUPC process

To the editor:

I’m writing to express my deep appreciation to the Land Use Planning Commission staff for diligently wading through a (Pickett) mountain of data, expert and public testimony, exhibits and evidence. I also wish to thank the commission for their thoughtful public deliberations on the salient questions connected to their mission.  Deliberations before the public are almost always difficult. I thank you for running meetings that were secure and thoughtful of the public’s needs despite the limited size of your board and staff.

I urge board members to accept the professional staff’s recommendation to deny Wolfden’s request for a zoning variance at Picket Mountain, for safeguarding the headwaters of the Mattawamkeag and Penobscot rivers and for having a care for our vast, unmapped aquifer, comprised of underground flows and seeps that supply water to wells, springs and spring-fed lakes.
