Zayre honors senior citizens – Zayre of Madawaska held a Senior Citizens Day for February in their store. A beautiful Valentine cake was made by a store employee, Mrs. Norma Michaud. The cake was shaped in two adjoining hearts, each with white frosting and little red candy hearts. More than 100 senior citizens attended and prizes were given to those with lucky numbers. The senior citizens enjoy coming to Zayre on “their” day because it makes them feel so special and also gives them a chance to get out and meet people and get involved with the community.

Special Olympic skiers – Winning medals in the Special Olympics ski event held recently at Sugarloaf were St. Agatha skiers: Jill Lagasse, second place, 500 meter and third place 1K, winning a silver and bronze medal; Sarah Dionne, third place 100 meter; winning a bronze medal; and Caitlin Killarney, second place 100 meter, winning a silver medal. Funds raised were used to pay for uniforms and the trip, which was a big success.

Gagnons revealed as winners — The identity of the couple who won nearly $3 million in lottery money last week in 2014 remained secret until Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, when it was revealed that Robert and Jeanne Gagnon had won the Megabucks. Gagnon said that she opted for the 30-year payout rather than the lump sum, because she will get to keep more of the money over the long term. “That means I have to live until I’m 90-something now,” she said with a laugh. “You can’t win if you don’t play,” she said.
