PRESQUE ISLE, Maine—Wintergreen Arts Center is featuring the work of local artist Risica Caputi during the month of September. The opening reception of her show will be held on Friday, September 6 from 6–7:45 p.m. during Presque Isle’s First Friday Art Walk.
Caputi is a printmaker and human artist living in northern Maine. Born and raised in Englewood, Florida, she attended the Booker High Visual and Performing Arts School where she majored in dance.
After traveling the country, Risica found her way to Maine. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in literature and is a certified Montessori educator. Caputi is also a published poet and a tattoo enthusiast. She has worked alongside one of northern Maine’s most sought-after tattoo artists as shop manager for over 10 years.
After fracturing the wrist in her dominant hand in 2023, Caputi discovered that creating visual art aided her mental health during a difficult recovery.
Caputi works in varying mediums, although block printing is her passion. After undergoing a second surgery on her left hand in 2024, she is now officially ambidextrous. She is currently creating daily, making up for the 30 years she missed, never knowing she was an artist.
“Risica’s artistic talent is incredible,” said Gretchen Violette, Wintergreen’s events director. “She has a unique vision that shows in her artwork. We are so happy to feature Risica’s work at Wintergreen and look forward to sharing her art with the local community.”
