For the past eight years, I’ve done my best to ensure the voices from The County were heard in Augusta. I fought alongside veterans and their families to save the Caribou Veterans’ Home. I worked with parents, employers and providers to improve access to quality, affordable child care. And I’ve worked with patients to take on Big Pharma. We’ve made progress but there is a lot left to do.
I can’t run for re-election due to term limits but I’m committed to making sure Aroostook County has someone who will fight for us and deliver in my place. That’s why I’m proud to endorse Vaughn McLaughlin for Senate.
Born in Limestone and raised in Fort Fairfield, Vaughn will show up for Aroostook County and all of rural Maine in Augusta. As the son of potato farmers, he’s going to show up and actually work for us — just like he’s shown up for his band students at Caribou High School and his players on the basketball court.
If there is one thing I’ve learned about Vaughn throughout this campaign, it is that when he commits to something he is all in. And that’s what we need in Augusta.
Too many people run for office and treat the Statehouse like a social club. They don’t show up, they don’t introduce bills and they don’t pick up the phone. They just go through the motions and speak to hear themselves talk. That’s just not who Vaughn is.
I first ran for office because I believed ordinary people deserved to have a voice in government. As I leave office, I want to ensure people can still count on someone to pick up the phone and fight for them and that the constituents I’ve met across the district won’t get left behind.
Vaughn is honest, hardworking and committed to our community. On Nov. 5, I hope you will join me in voting Vaughn McLaughlin for state Senate. He is the one for Senate District 1.
