Houlton Middle High School has announced that Peter Bonaparte, a dedicated and talented student, has won first place in the Cole Land Transportation Museum’s prestigious Veteran Interview Program.

Bonaparte’s project was part of a classroom effort stemming from Nanette Mills’s English classes visiting the Cole Land Transportation Museum in spring 2024. His achievement was recognized during the museum’s annual Veteran’s Day Service on Monday, Nov. 11.

“Peter’s exemplary work in preserving the stories of our nation’s veterans earned him a brand-new MacBook Air as part of the first-place award,” Mills said. “The reading of his essay demonstrated exceptional skill, dedication, and respect for the sacrifices made by veterans.”

The Veterans Day service, held at the Cole Land Transportation Museum, featured a stirring performance by the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, setting a tone of reflection and gratitude. The keynote address was delivered by Lieutenant Commander Shaun Dowd, United States Navy, who shared powerful insights on the importance of honoring and learning from veterans.

Bonaparte’s achievement not only highlights his hard work but also underscores the importance of connecting with history through personal stories.

Houlton Middle High School congratulated Peter on his well-deserved success and thanked the Cole Land Transportation Museum for offering such an impactful opportunity for students across Maine.
