Our big move is here

Well, it has become a reality. After almost two years of meetings, planning, countless hours of grant writing, letter campaigns, fundraising and pleading our cause, last weekend we celebrated “moving day” at the Central Aroostook Humane Society.

We can’t say enough about Buck Construction and the endless dedication that was given to making this long-dreamed-of animal shelter a reality. It wasn’t an easy process and there were many “growing pains” along the way, but Andy and his entire crew were there to address every concern and issue.

Our beautiful new building is “state of the art,” according to the insurance company, and all one needs to do is walk through to appreciate how energy-efficient and well-thought-out this building is.

What a blessing it is for not only our employees, but for the thousands of future pets that will pass through these shelter doors.

With that said, it’s not all done yet. Our shelter employees and volunteers have been working endless hours, even on the weekends and days off, to accomplish this move. There is still much to do with assembling shelving, creating a safe and workable space, and moving endless supplies and equipment.  It will take the next few weeks to truly get moved in and organized, but with the public’s patience, it will happen.

We will be looking to have a grand open house just after the new year in early January. This will give us the chance to celebrate this wonderful achievement and to recognize those generous individuals and businesses who made this a reality.

Don’t forget that for the rest of November, we are showcasing all of our dogs and offering a $25 adoption fee. For those dogs that are unaltered, Maine requires a $100 deposit, which will be returned after proof of spaying or neutering.

Please check out our Facebook page for pets that are up for adoption, and don’t forget to be responsible pet owners — spay and neuter.
