Jefferson Cary Foundation Endowment Fund reaches $1 million

CARIBOU, Maine — The Jefferson Cary Foundation is celebrating a milestone; the Foundation’s Endowment Fund has passed the $1 million mark. The Endowment Fund is a permanent fund, with the principal remaining intact and interest only income is used to support a variety of projects at Cary Medical Center.

“The Foundation’s goal actually started back in 1994. I was fortunate to be one of the original members when we made this lofty goal of going for a million dollars and we decided to not take any of the capital or anything until we met a million dollars,” says Craig Small, board member.

“We’ve raised a million dollars, but we also have donated a million dollars back to projects at Cary Medical Center, such as the expansion of services and purchasing new technology,” said Craig Staples, JCF board president. A new window display outside the Jefferson Cary Foundation office, inside Cary Medical Center, shows the areas of the hospital that have received funding.

Through the generosity and support of many donors, the Foundation has generated more than $1 million in support of several major hospital projects; including the addition of the Specialty Clinics and Chan Center, the Women’s Imaging Center, the Pines Center for Women’s & Children’s Health and the Jefferson Cary Cancer Center.

“I want to thank our donors. We have giving come from all over North America. We could not help our hospital without the generosity of our donor community, the careful planning from our local investment group, and our Board of Directors,” said Chelsey Anderson, JCF executive director. “I think it is very beneficial to have a board comprised of members of our community, with a pulse on the needs of our neighbors. After all, the overall goal of the Foundation is to benefit you. To make the choices to help the people of Aroostook County have the best healthcare available.”

“The past and present board of directors are proud to have helped in some way to raise and give funds raised. The board of directors look forward to continuing to help raise funds and donate those funds to Cary, who helps serve our community,” says Staples.
