Police arrested a Fort Fairfield man Friday after he allegedly shot another resident at the Forest Avenue home where they live.

Maurice House, 75, was charged with aggravated assault, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and reckless conduct after allegedly shooting the other man who lived in the home, Police Chief Matthew Cummings said.

The shooting victim, who was not identified, is expected to recover, police said.

Police were notified at approximately 12:30 a.m. by a 911 call. Officer Isaac Wipperman and Cummings arrived at the home to find the man had been shot in the left side of the chest. Officers tended to him until paramedics from Fort Fairfield Fire and Rescue arrived.

An argument had escalated, resulting in House shooting the housemate with a .22 revolver, Cummings said.

House was arrested and taken to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton, where bail has been set at $10,000 cash.

The Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office and Border Patrol officers assisted.

Further charges may be pending as the investigation continues, Cummings said.
