Water main break affects Presque Isle school and businesses

A Presque Isle school is closed for the day and some businesses are on alert following a Tuesday water main break at Skyway Industrial Park.

The break is located between DASCO Agricultural and Silvicultural Services and the city’s stormwater retention pond, DASCO owner David Adams said. He did not know when the issue would be repaired.

“It’s in a 10-inch water line that feeds the park with high-volume water,” Adams said. “We are without water right now, and some other businesses are as well.”

Because the break affected water at Presque Isle Middle School, the school closed for the day Tuesday, SAD 1 Superintendent Ben Greenlaw said.

“School won’t reopen today,” he said. “The hope is that it gets fixed in time for school tomorrow.”

As of early Tuesday afternoon, Presque Isle Utilities District crews were digging with a backhoe near DASCO.

Utilities staff were unavailable for comment. Water main work at the north end of Central Drive was reported on the district’s website.

No other details were immediately available.
