To the editor:
As a resident of Maine’s northern border, I thank Sen. Susan Collins for her leadership in introducing the Northern Border Coordination Act. This bipartisan legislation is a crucial step in keeping our border communities safe, secure and well supported.
Those of us who live and work along the U.S.-Canada border understand the unique challenges law enforcement faces in monitoring such a vast and remote area. While our border with Canada is among the longest and friendliest in the world, it is not immune to threats like drug and human trafficking. The Northern Border Coordination Act will enhance collaboration between federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, ensuring they have the resources and intelligence needed to address security risks effectively.
Sen. Collins has long been a champion of border security and her commitment to strengthening coordination and response capabilities along the norther border is commendable. This legislation not only prioritizes community safety but also protects the legitimate trade and travel that are essential to Maine’s economy.
I urge Congress to advance this commonsense, bipartisan solution. Maine’s northern border communities deserve a well coordinated security strategy, and thanks to Sen. Collins’ leadership, we are one step closer to achieving that goal.
