ASHLAND, Maine – The town of Ashland is proud to announce the hiring of Macie Elwell as the new recreation director while also extending deepest gratitude to Lendell Tarr, who has retired after 31 years of dedicated service.
Elwell, who lives in Ashland with her husband Marshal, has deep roots in the town. Born and raised here, she grew up participating in local recreation programs, volunteering and playing sports throughout her school years. Her personal connection to Ashland’s recreational spaces has shaped her belief in their importance for children, families and seniors alike.
“This opportunity means a great deal to me,” said Elwell. “I’ve seen firsthand how important these programs are for our community, and I am committed to building on that legacy. I want to create opportunities that bring people together, keep us active and reflect the pride we all have in our town.”
As Elwell steps into this role, she follows in the footsteps of Lendell Tarr whose three decades of leadership and dedication have shaped the town’s recreation programs into the vibrant community spaces they are today. Tarr’s unwavering commitment, vision and passion have created opportunities for generations of Ashland residents to enjoy sports, outdoor activities, and community events. His impact will be felt for years to come, and the town is forever grateful for his service.
With Elwell’s leadership, Ashland’s recreation programs will continue to thrive, fostering connection, engagement and healthy living for residents. The town looks forward to seeing her vision come to life and celebrating the positive impact she will have in her new role.
