The County Federal Credit Union has announced two recent promotions: Ethelyn “Effie” Murchie, vice president of compliance and BSA; and Jacob Kinney, vice president of information technology.

Murchie began her career with credit unions in 1987 but first joined The County Federal Credit Union as a teller at the Caribou branch in 1992. She also worked on opening new accounts, but shortly afterward, she transitioned to the human resources department as the executive assistant.

Next, she moved into a loan officer position and remained there for six years until becoming the Fort Fairfield branch manager. Murchie was the branch manager for 17 years before becoming assistant vice president of compliance and BSA.

“We are fortunate to have Effie’s wealth of knowledge in this role,” said Ryan Ellsworth, CFCU president and CEO. “For more than 30 years, she has not only mentored new credit union employees and shaped important policies but also played a vital role in protecting our members and the credit union from fraud. Her leadership in compliance and BSA oversight continues to strengthen our organization and safeguard the financial well-being of our members.”

“I have enjoyed helping members and staff with their financial needs over the years,” said Murchie. “The County has allowed me to grow and take on different challenges over the years. I feel I have acquired so much experience and knowledge that I use every day.”

Kinney began his career with the credit union as a part-time teller while attending classes at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. After graduating with a degree in business administration with a concentration in information technology and project management, Kinney began working as an IT support technician for The County. In 2022, Kinney took over the AVP of Information Technology role.

“Jake has researched and implemented truly ground-breaking technologies at The County,” said James Mattila, COO at The County. “He continues to look ahead for ways to provide our members with products and services that make their financial lives easier.”

“I’m grateful for the recognition and proud to continue growing with The County,” said Kinney. “I’ve been fortunate to work alongside such a talented group, and I’m excited to keep building on what we’ve accomplished so far. I will be continuing my focus on technology enhancements that make it easy to do business, while maintaining the security our members have come to expect.”

“Effie and Jake represent the very best of our credit union,” said Ellsworth. “Their commitment to our members, their leadership within our team, and the impact they have on our growth have helped shape our success. We are excited to see their continued contributions as they step into these new roles.”

The County Federal Credit Union serves Aroostook, Penobscot, and Piscataquis Counties with branches in Bangor, Caribou, Fort Fairfield, Houlton, Howland, Mars Hill, Old Town, and Presque Isle.
