Howland golfer wins Mars Hill Open

The Mars Hill Rotary Club recently hosted the 23rd annual Alton McQuade Mars Hill Open Aug. 9-10 at the Mars Hill Country Club.

Wyatt Foster of Howland was the tournament winner.

More than 70 players turned out for the event. Many were from the local area and other Maine golf clubs, but some attended from as far away as West Virginia and California.

Some new players enjoyed their first Alton McQuade tournament this year.

Winners of each division are as follows.

Men’s Division 1

1st gross, Brandon Dimick; 2nd gross, Steve Clark; 3rd gross, Ralph Michaud; and 4th gross, Mark Bartheleny.

1st net, A.J. Edgecomb; 2nd net, Mike Vanadestine; 3rd net, Kyle Grooms; and 4th net, Jamie Leavitt.

Men’s Division 2

1st gross, Cliff Urquhart; 2nd gross, Josh Cyr; 3rd gross, David Nadeau; and 4th gross, Ron Morin.

1st net, John Dessingy; 2nd net, Dennis Anderson; 3rd net, Steve Hannington; and 4th net, Ethan Shaw.

Senior division

1st gross, Ken Dimick; 2nd gross, Frank Marino; 3rd gross, Tim York; and 4th gross, Gordon Smith.

1st net, Jim Foster; 2nd net, Harry Orser; 3rd net, Tom Trafford; and 4th net, Sterling Bradd.

Organizers are already planning next year’s Mars Hill Open, which will be held Aug. 7-9.
