WALLAGRASS, Maine — A portion of Route 11 in Wallagrass will be reduced to one lane from Sept. 2 to Oct. 18 as workers repair the roadway.

The work will take place between the intersection of Lab Lane and the intersection of Sutton SIding Road. This stretch of road is roughly 2 miles long.

The work will include centerline repairs, milling, shim, shoulder rehab and hot mix overlay.

“The roadway enhancement will involve surface pavement improvements to mitigate wheel path rutting and prevent pavement degradation,” said Andrew Gobeil, director of the MaineDOT Office of Communications and Creative Services. “Additionally, the project includes maintenance of the existing paved shoulders and restoration of open drainage ditches to ensure proper stormwater conveyance.”

The contract for the project was awarded to Steelstone Industries of Houlton.

Globeil said the overall estimated total project cost, which includes engineering, construction, and project inspection, is approximately $1.68 million.

“We remind motorists traveling through construction zones to reduce their speed to posted limits and, as always, be mindful of workers,” Globeil said. “Motorists may also want to budget additional travel time due to the ongoing work.”
