UMFK hosts annual Homecoming celebration Sept. 19-21

FORT KENT, Maine — The University of Maine at Fort Kent will host its annual Homecoming celebration from Friday, Sept. 19 to Sunday, Sept. 21.

Three fun-filled days will feature a variety of events, including bouncy houses, a community barbecue, bonfire, live music, athletic competitions, a presentation of the new Landmark sculpture and homecoming brunch. The public is encouraged to attend all Homecoming events planned throughout the weekend.

The UMFK campus store, located in Cyr Hall, is offering 20% off all clothing and novelty items on Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday the campus store will be onsite outside the Sports Center from 1-5 p.m. 

Friday, Sept. 19

Homecoming festivities kick off with bouncy houses and field games located outside the UMFK Sports Center at 3:30 p.m.  Participants can enjoy classic lawn games like corn hole, Kan Jam disc game, ladder ball, 8-legged races and potato sack races. Additional stations will be set up to represent each of our athletic teams. Free and open to the public.

While on campus, you can enjoy a community barbecue, which will be free and open to the public from 5-6 p.m. that will be held near the Sports Center.

At 7 p.m. on the Sports Center quad, join us for the presentation of Landmark, UMFK’s new campus sculpture by Robert Brochu. Meet the artist and explore the inspiration for the piece in a brief ceremony.

The evening will conclude with a bonfire on Crocker Beach beginning at 8 p.m., which will include s’mores, beverages and music. The bonfire is free and open to the public.

Saturday, Sept. 20

Float high above the breath-taking and spectacular scenery of the campus and Fort Kent in a hot air tethered balloon on the quad area located near Nowland Hall from 8-10 a.m. The rides are free and open to the public. In the event of inclement weather, balloon rides will take place on Sunday, same time and same place.

From 1-7 p.m. at the Sports Center quad, food trucks will be onsite (food vouchers available) and bouncy houses for families to enjoy.

At 2 p.m., on the Michael Simon Field, cheer on the UMFK Bengal women’s soccer game at 2 p.m. followed by the Bengal men’s soccer game at 4 p.m. Both teams will go up against the Central Maine Community College Mustangs.

The Alumni Association will be collecting nonperishable food items for Feed the Bengals food pantry.

Experience the hard-rocking sound and electrifying performance with AD/HD: The AC/DC Experience at the Sports Center from 7:30-9 p.m. Following the live entertainment at 9 p.m., DJ Jhano Entertainment will get this party started at the Student Activities Board Student and Alumni Dance. Both events are free and open to the public.  

Sunday, Sept. 21

At 10:30 a.m., the Homecoming Brunch and Awards Ceremony will take place in Nadeau Hall. This year, the UMFK Alumni Association will recognize the graduating classes of 1945, 1955, 1965, 1975, 1985, 1995, 2005, 2000, 2015 and 2020. There will be special recognition for the classes of 1975 (50-year reunion) and 2000 (25-year reunion). The Association will present awards to this year’s Outstanding Alumni Award and outgoing Alumni Association Board Members. Tickets are $15 per person.  This is a chance to reconnect with alumni, old friends and new acquaintances.

The weekend will close with the women’s alumni soccer game at noon followed by the men’s alumni soccer game at 2 p.m. on Michael Simon Field.
