The Katahdin Area Council of Scouting America recently presented awards to local leaders for volunteering their time in the Scout program in the North Star District of Aroostook County.

Two leaders were recognized for their years of membership in the Scouting America program. Larry Harrison, scoutmaster for Troop 177, received his 60-year membership pin. Tom Peary of Presque Isle was recognized with his 50-year pin for his scouting and leadership with Troops 271 and 171.

Both men began their scouting as youth and have continuously served the program.

D. Greg Page of Washburn and Wade was presented with the prestigious Silver Beaver Award.  The Silver Beaver Award is the highest recognition a local Scout council can bestow upon an adult volunteer leader for noteworthy service that impacts the lives of youth and makes outstanding contributions to the Scouting program.

Page was nominated by the local council and approved by the Boy Scouts of America National Council. He was recognized for service above and beyond the normal expectations of his volunteer position as charter representative for Troop 177 and district chairman for the North Star District, demonstrating commitment to both Scouting and his community.
