ASHLAND, Maine — The Town of Ashland is proud to announce the arrival of its new 2024 four-wheel drive ambulance, a critical upgrade to the region’s emergency medical response capabilities. This state-of-the-art vehicle was made possible through $431,000 in Congressionally Directed Spending secured by U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine during fiscal year 2024.

Ambulance Director Tara Peterson led the successful funding application, ensuring that Ashland and its surrounding communities including Masardis, Garfield Plantation, Nashville Plantation, Portage Lake and several unorganized territories such as The North Maine Woods will benefit from improved access  to life-saving care.

“Mainers in every part of our state should be able to receive the vital medical services they need,” said Collins. “I am proud to have secured this funding to support the purchase of a new ambulance and updated first responder equipment, helping to improve the quality and accessibility of health care in Ashland and the surrounding communities.”

The new ambulance is equipped to navigate challenging terrain and harsh weather conditions, ensuring  timely response in even the most remote areas. Its arrival marks a significant milestone in Ashland’s ongoing commitment to public safety, regional collaboration and equitable health care access.
