To the editor:
As a senior citizen in Maine who utilizes a Medicare Advantage plan, I am writing to urge our legislators to protect this important program from possible future cuts that could put this program at risk.
Medicare Advantage is a wonderful program that provides more coverage and benefits than traditional Medicare. It provides dental, vision and hearing benefits, a quarterly allowance for over-the-counter health-related items, and reimbursement for fitness classes and fitness-related products that can help seniors stay fit and healthy, cutting down on doctor and hospital visits, which can also keep healthcare costs from rising.
As a senior on a fixed income, I appreciate that my particular Advantage plan also pays a portion of my Part B Medicare premium, which is helpful for people on already tight budgets.
If funding for Medicare Advantage is cut, these benefits are at risk. Seniors in Maine who have worked all their lives have earned these benefits and the peace of mind they provide. I urge our legislators to protect this program from future cuts and preserve the benefits and programs that Maine seniors rely on. Please keep this program strong for the people who need it the most.
