As Halloween approaches, the Presque Isle Fire Department reminds everyone that safety is just as important as fun this spooky season. Whether you’re trick-or-treating around town or joining us for our annual Trunk-or-Treat, a few extra precautions can help make the night safe and enjoyable for everyone.
Presque Isle Public Safety will be hosting its annual Trunk-or-Treat on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 43 North Street in Presque Isle. This family-friendly event offers a safe, well-lit environment for children to collect candy, show off their costumes, and meet local firefighters, police officers and community members. There will be decorated vehicles, and plenty of treats for all.
Families and local businesses are encouraged to take part. Registration information can be found by scanning the QR code on our flyers or visiting our department’s page.
To help keep everyone safe, the Presque Isle Fire Department offers a few reminders for the holiday:
1) Choose flame-resistant costumes and avoid long, flowing materials that could come into contact with open flames.
2) Use battery-operated candles instead of real ones in pumpkins and decorations.
3) Keep paper, hay and other flammable decorations away from heat sources.
4) Test your smoke alarms to make sure they are working properly.
5) Add reflective tape to costumes or carry glow sticks and flashlights to stay visible to drivers.
6) Make sure young children are always accompanied by an adult or responsible older sibling while trick-or-treating.
“Halloween can be an exciting night for our community,” said Chase Labbe, a firefighter and paramedic with the Presque Isle Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Division. “Our goal is to help families celebrate safely while keeping fire hazards and accidents to a minimum. The Trunk-or-Treat gives everyone a chance to enjoy the holiday in a safe, controlled environment, and we look forward to seeing everyone there.”
The Presque Isle Fire Department encourages all residents to take these safety tips seriously so that Halloween remains a fun, safe, and memorable night for everyone.
