Melvin “Mel” Hovey was awarded Presque Isle’s inaugural Golden Cane Award during the Wednesday, Nov. 5, City Council meeting.
City Council Chair Jeff Willette presented Hovey, 95, with the award, which the city plans to give annually to an outstanding citizen.
Hovey is a former councilor, and served as president and CEO of the Maine Public Service Company, chairman of the Maine & Maritimes Corp. and director of the Maine Yankee Atomic Power Co., among other roles.
“It’s impossible to capture all that Mel has contributed,” Willette said Wednesday.
