Limestone Rotary dedicates new dugouts

Limestone Rotary Club recently completed construction of new baseball dugouts at the Albert Michaud Memorial Park in Limestone.

The dugouts are a gift to the community in memory of Kent Ward. Ward, a longtime Bangor Daily News reporter, columnist and editor, died on Jan. 5, 2025.

After serving a tour of duty in Korea, Ward returned to Limestone in 1954, where he was editor of his hometown newspaper, the Limestone Leader, for eight years. During that time, he was a member of the Limestone Rotary Club, secretary of the Limestone Chamber of Commerce, and coached youth league and American Legion baseball teams.

He played town team baseball for many seasons in his beloved Aroostook County and neighboring Canada, later playing baseball with the Thomaston Clippers and softball in men’s leagues in Rockland and Bangor.

Rotarians recognized Pierre Huntress & Dustin Wallace of Huntress Carpentry for volunteering their time, and Paul Durepo and crew of Big Dog Construction for doing the groundwork and preparing the cement pad.

A ceremony was recently held presenting the dugouts to the town of Limestone and Limestone Community School.
