Wednesday, Jan. 14-Friday, Jan. 16
Low pressure over Québec will continue to track towards Labrador while pulling a cold front towards the Saint John Valley. A wave of low pressure along the front will track into Maine tomorrow and move across central Maine as the day progresses. Temperatures at the surface and aloft are expected to be warm enough to produce a rain/snow mix for the region beginning after midnight tonight and continuing to around midday Thursday.
Colder air then pours into the Valley later Thursday into Friday morning changing precipitation to all snow. Low pressure moves into the Maritimes Friday with cold high pressure building in behind the system. Snow is expected to linger through the day Friday before tapering off Friday evening. Partly cloudy and cold conditions are expected Friday night into Saturday.
Currently, around 6 inches snow in the far northwest of Maine, around 4 inches in the North Woods and along/just west of the Highway 11 corridor, and 1-3 inches in eastern portions of the County. Liquid precipitation up to one-tenth inch in much of northern Maine with up to one quarter inch possible in eastern portions of the area.
Saturday, Jan. 17-Tuesday, Jan. 20
A change in the weather pattern is expected heading into the weekend and next week, bringing a better chance for colder temperatures. Cold air from the north will be able to move south more easily, which will make conditions feel more wintry. However, there is still some uncertainty about storm chances this weekend. While the pattern could support a storm, many forecast models now suggest that any systems may move through too quickly or remain weak.
Because of this, the likelihood of a significant storm has decreased, and the chance for precipitation on Saturday and Sunday has been lowered. At this time, any impacts this weekend appear limited. A weak front may move across the area Monday into Tuesday with isolated snow showers for Valley communities.
