Time goes by so fast, can’t believe Christmas and New Year’s is over, and we are into a new month of the new year. Hope everyone had a good holiday.
I know the Central Aroostook Humane Society fared very well during the month of December. I have taken over writing the thank you notes recently after another board member, Carolyn, wrote them for years. I am giving her a little break. The many donations we received during the holiday season were very generous. Aroostook County and beyond, the many followers we have help us, help the animals who come through our doors, and we are forever grateful for each and every one. Thank you so much for your support.
What has my Ollie boy been up too lately? He likes the snow if it’s light and fluffy, he uses that short nose of his just like a little snow plow. He does wear a sweater or coat at times but he’s not really fond of them.
I had a thought, that maybe my two pups needed some boots this year, so I measured their feet and ordered online. Ollie’s came first, so I proceeded to put them on him. This is not an easy feat, to put boots on their paws.
Out the door we go, Ollie’s in his little boots, and yes, he was walking kind of funny, my husband is watching out the window and I’m out door with Ollie. All of a sudden, a large grey squirrel runs out in front of us, Ollie’s eyes got big and he took off like a ball of fire after that squirrel and all 4 boots flew up in the air in all different directions. I never laughed so hard, and I looked in the window to see if my husband saw this and he was laughing too. Nothing better than a squirrel chase in Ollie’s book, and especially the grey squirrels, because their bigger. He sees a squirrel, red or grey and its game on!
Ollie was 3 on Jan. 23, he sure has come a long way since the day I brought him home. He has turned into the best buddy for us and for his little Yorkipoo sister, Sadie.
Ollie follows her everywhere outside, I would say she is the boss of the two, if she doesn’t want to be bothered, she will let him know.
Ollie loves his chewies, he’s been a chewer since I brought him home. I give him the trachea chews, bully sticks, and cow hooves. He loves them all, the cow hooves stink so bad when he chews on them but they are good for his teeth. The worst thing is when he buries these after he is done chewing them, you usually find them in your bed between your pillows. You never know while sleeping, one might be dropped near your face at night, believe me if that happens, you wake up fast because of the smell, but he is so proud cause he thinks he is sharing his chewie with you. Ollie is sure a funny and entertaining little dog.
Remember to spay and neuter your pets, this keeps the population down. If you are looking for a new pet member to your family, check out the Central Aroostook Humane Society at 210 Cross St in Presque Isle. We have some wonderful animals looking for their forever home.
Gail Wieder is on the Central Aroostook Humane Society Board of Directors.
