FORT KENT, Maine — Fort Kent Community High School is proud to announce that Katherine A. Michaud, daughter of Keith and Patricia Michaud of Fort Kent and a member of the Class of 2026, has been selected as the school’s 2026 Principal’s Award recipient.
The Principal’s Award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, recognizes a high school senior from each member school who demonstrates outstanding leadership, academic achievement, citizenship and service to both school and community.
Michaud exemplifies leadership in every sense of the word. She is a dedicated student-athlete, serving as captain of the varsity basketball team and competing on the varsity softball team, where she leads with commitment, teamwork and integrity.
Her leadership extends well beyond athletics. Michaud serves as president of the National Honor Society and as NHS Northern Regional treasurer. She is also a Link Crew co-ambassador and an active member of Battle of the Books, French Club and Travel Club. Her involvement reflects a strong commitment to academic excellence and school engagement.
Outside of school, Michaud works for the Fort Kent Recreation Department as an afterschool recreational worker and lifeguard. She also gives back by coaching the youth summer recreation swim team. Much of her volunteer service has been through her Catholic church, where she serves as a lector, youth representative on the Parish Council and harvest supper volunteer. Through Link Crew and other service efforts, she has helped incoming freshmen feel welcomed and supported as they transition into high school.
“Katherine represents the very best of Fort Kent Community High School,” Principal Steve Doucette said. “Her leadership, strong character, and genuine care for others make a lasting impact on our school and our community.”
Michaud will be honored at the Maine Principals’ Association Principal’s Award Honors Luncheon on Saturday, April 11 at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer. The event recognizes students from more than 100 public and private high schools across Maine. Each award recipient will receive an individual plaque, and 10 $1,000 scholarships will be awarded in honor of former Maine principals and MPA Executive Directors Horace O. McGowan, Richard W. Tyler and Richard A. Durost.
Fort Kent Community High School congratulates Michaud on this well-deserved honor.
