On March 16th , the first of the three annual town elections and meetings was held by the Town of Mapleton at the Mapleton Lions Community Hall. The town election was held prior to the town meeting.
Select board candidate Kim Archer won a three-year term on the Town of Mapleton Select Board. Town Assessor Incumbent Dave Maxcy was elected to a three-year term as a town assessor. The Mapleton Sewer District Trustee position was a write-in vote on the ballot. At the time of the writing of this column, the winner was yet to be confirmed.
Prior to the town meeting, Town Manager Sandra Fournier presented the Spirit of America Award to the family of Mapleton resident Dennis Hoffses in memory of his selfless leadership and community service in bettering life in the towns of Mapleton, Castle Hill and Chapman.

The Joint Select Board of these towns recognized his leadership, initiative and tireless volunteerism to strengthen community life and civic pride.
Hoffses demonstrated exceptional commitment to community service through his 34-year involvement with the Mapleton Lions Club, where he served in leadership roles, spearheaded numerous fundraising initiatives, and was honored twice as Lion of the Year, in addition to receiving the prestigious Melvin jones Fellowship Award in recognition of his outstanding dedication and service.
The award states that the Joint Select Board “recognizes and honors the life, service and enduring contributions of Dennis Hoffses, whose commitment to community will be remembered with gratitude and respect.”
Accepting this tribute were Myra Hoffses, Dennis’ wife, his daughter Tammie McLaughlin and his daughter Denise and her husband Chris Condon.
Following this recognition, residents entered in a town meeting where they approved the 29 articles on the Mapleton Town Meeting Warrant. Among the articles, the voters approved total anticipated revenues of $1,182,442. They went on and voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $1,139,149 as its share of joint expenses for fiscal year ending Dec. 31.
Also voters approved adopting a new proposed logo representing the three town Interlocal Cooperation Agreement between Mapleton, Castle Hill and Chapman. The Select Board and town Manager were authorized to use the new logo as needed in business documents.
On March 17, the second town meeting was held for Castle Hill at the Mapleton, Castle Hill and Chapman Fire Station. The town election was held prior to the annual town meeting. Castle Hill residents approved 28 articles of the posted Castle Hill Town Meeting Warrant.

Voters elected Ryan Spooner to a three-year term to the town of Castle Hill Select Board. Also, Maylen Kenney was approved by voters for a three-year term as town assessor.
At the town meeting, voters approved total anticipated revenues of $295,917. They voted to raise and appropriate $327,876 as its share of joint expenses for fiscal year ending Dec. 31. These appropriations were set by the Joint Select Board, pursuant to the Interlocal Agreement and Private and Special Laws of 2009.
Also voters approved the new proposed and the updated Interlocal Cooperation logo for the three towns in this cooperating agreement.
The Land Use Ordinance for the Town of Castle Hill was approved for enactment. For more specific information or to obtain a copy of the ordinance, please contact the Mapleton, Castle Hill and Chapman Town Office.
Both towns approved to raise and appropriate funds for public safety in the amounts of $167, 848 for Mapleton and $32, 488 for Castle Hill. There were approvals for fund appropriation for community services that included $26,981 for Mapleton and $4,068 for Castle Hill.
General Assistance appropriations were approved of $11,500 for Mapleton and $1,000 for Castle Hill. The Town of Mapleton also approved an appropriation of $5,000 for the Mapleton Sewer District.
