CARIBOU, Maine — The Greater Houlton (Houlton/GHCA) track and field team traveled to Caribou High School on Saturday for the third meet of the season with nine schools in attendance, including powerhouse programs from Presque Isle, Orono and Bucksport. On a day marked by stiff competition, the boys team secured a seventh place finish with 41 points while the girls placed fifth overall with 12 points.
Freshman Isaac Watson had a day highlighted by a massive performance in the long jump, breaking the previous program record mark with a leap of 18 feet, 10 inches to take third place overall. This jump officially shattered the previous program record of 17-10, which had stood since 2015.
Watson’s record-breaking day didn’t stop there; he also earned a fourth-place finish in the high jump, by clearing 5-04 to contribute 10 individual points to the team total.

The individual scoring was once again led by senior captain James Brady, amassing 11.5 total, followed by his brother Nathan with 10.5 of his own and Watson with 10.
The girls team were a little understaffed on the day, missing two scoring leading Shires in Andrea Ross and Greta Kenney. The team was led by strong performances from underclassmen Isabella McCarthy and April Mazur. McCarthy secured a podium spot in the discus with a third-place mark of 81-09 which is her new personal best. On the track, Mazur continued her successful freshman campaign, taking fourth place in the 100 hurdles (19.34 seconds) and scoring again with a sixth-place finish in the 400.

The team will be back in action on Thursday, May 14 as it travels to Foxcroft Academy for a Class C PVC meet. The middle school program will be in action on Wednesday up in Presque Isle at the Johnson Athletic Complex.
