Presque Isle Fire Department plans open house Sunday

The Presque Isle Fire Department will welcome community members on Sunday and provide an opportunity for those interested in the fire service to learn how to get involved.

The department will host its annual spring open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 17.

The event will double as a call for volunteers to step up and be part of something bigger than themselves, firefighter and paramedic Chase Labbe said.

“Volunteering with your local fire department is more than responding to emergencies. It is about teamwork, leadership, service and protecting the people and communities that we call our home,” Labbe said.

Departments across the region rely on dedicated community members to help with fire suppression and other efforts, and many are looking for new volunteers, he said.

Anyone who has ever considered serving their community, whether in Presque Isle or other communities, can learn more at the open house.

Kids can get up close with fire vehicles in a “touch a truck” event. All ages can explore the equipment, meet firefighters and EMS personnel, ask questions and discover how they can get involved.

“Whether you are interested in becoming a paid call firefighter or exploring a future career in emergency services, there is a place for motivated individuals ready to make a difference,” Labbe said.

No experience is necessary. Training, mentorship and opportunities to grow are provided.

The open house is free and open to everyone.
