Happy spring

It was a beautiful weekend and thousands showed up at The Forum’s Trash and Treasure Sale. Our Central Aroostook Humane Society booth was overwhelmed with lots of customers that wanted to show their support for the animals.

We put the word out that we hoped to have some donations for our bake sale and boy, did you deliver. We had such an amazing variety of sweet treats, freshly baked bread, rolls, cinnamon buns, fancy cupcakes, pies, truffles, cake pops, cookies – and the puppy and kitty treats were a big hit as well.

We had new T-shirts and sweatshirts to sell along with our very popular lottery board raffle. A big congratulations to Cheryl Corriveau of Caribou who was the lucky winner. We hope she has fun “scratching” and will see some lucky winners along the way.

Thanks to all who helped to make this fundraiser such a huge success for the animals.

Spring has finally sprung here in Aroostook County and we are especially happy after what seemed like a really long and cold winter. It goes without saying that getting out and going for some walks with your pet is good for both of you, but here are some other tips to help you and your furry family enjoy spring.

Don’t forget always to have fresh water available 24/7 for your pet. Some dry, shaded shelter is also necessary for pets who spend time outside.

With spring comes the shedding of furrier pups. So, take the time to groom your pet at home or you can use a professional groomer. Your pet will love you for this pampering.

Spring cleaning my garden a few years ago, I accidently stumbled onto a wasp nest. If your pet gets stung by a wasp or bee, carefully remove the stinger and apply an ice pack. If the sting is around the head, mouth or nose, keep a close eye to make sure there aren’t issues with swallowing or breathing. As always, if you have concerns, contact your veterinarian.

A good reminder: if your pet is microchipped, be sure that your information is up to date, especially with a change of address or phone. This identification is key to having your pet returned to you if you should become separated.

Check out what pets are available for adoption at the Central Aroostook Humane Society. We are located at 210 Cross Street, Presque Isle.
