Wednesday, June 10-Friday, June 12

High pressure at the surface and aloft will continue to build across the Saint John Valley with very warm weather continuing through the end of the week. Weak disturbances aloft will bring some weak instability over the Valley today with mostly sunny skies in the morning, becoming mostly cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms possible this afternoon. Outside any storms that occur, little in the way of appreciable precipitation is expected.

Highs today top out in the mid- to upper 80s with light to near calm winds becoming southwest as the day progresses. Tonight, partly cloudy skies are expected over the region with lows falling into the upper 50s with calm winds.

Thursday, southerly flow around the backside of a Bermuda high off the eastern US will continue to bring more humid air into the region with dew points reaching the low 60s and making conditions feel more muggy. A disturbance moving across the region will bring additional moisture and instability, with a few showers expected, and an isolated thunderstorm cannot be ruled out, particularly across western parts of the region. However, widespread thunderstorm activity is not anticipated.

Mostly sunny skies with hot conditions Thursday as temperatures reach the upper 80s/low 90s across the St. John Valley. Thursday night, mostly clear skies in the evening become partly cloudy overnight with a 10% chance of showers after midnight. Low in the lower 60s with calm winds.

Friday will remain very warm, with temperatures climbing into the mid- to upper 80s across northern Maine and the Central Highlands. Humidity levels will remain elevated, resulting in slightly uncomfortable conditions. There will be another chance for afternoon showers and isolated thunderstorms Friday, and a cold front approaching Friday night may trigger additional showers and thunderstorms. Precipitation totals are expected to remain light with less than 1/10-inch in most locations, though higher amounts possible in any thunderstorms.

Highs Friday in the mid-80s under partly cloudy/partly sunny skies with southeast wind 5-10 mph and a 30% chance of showers along with some isolated thunderstorms. Friday night, mostly cloudy skies with an 80% chance of showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms. Low in the upper 50s with southeast wind 0-7 mph.

Saturday, June 13-Tuesday, June 16

An unsettled weather pattern is expected from Saturday through Tuesday, bringing periodic chances for showers and thunderstorms along with gradually cooler temperatures. While there will be dry periods between rounds of precipitation, no day appears completely free from the risk of showers. Saturday currently appears to offer the greatest chance for afternoon thunderstorms as a cold front moves through the region.

The cold front moves through the region Saturday with a 50% chance of showers along with scattered thunderstorms and light southeast winds. The front moves east of the region Saturday night with a lull in precipitation with isolated showers possible overnight. Low in the mid-50s with a light southwest wind.

Sunday, partly sunny skies will help temperatures climb into the upper 70s. A few showers may develop during the day, with the potential for scattered thunderstorms increasing during the afternoon and early evening. Activity will remain hit-or-miss, allowing for intervals of dry weather.

The chance for showers and thunderstorms will continue Sunday evening before transitioning to a greater likelihood of showers overnight. Skies will remain mostly cloudy, with temperatures falling into the middle 50s by daybreak Monday.

Monday will feature a mix of clouds and sunshine with temperatures reaching the lower to middle 70s. Additional showers and scattered thunderstorms are possible during the day, although widespread rainfall is not expected. By Monday night, precipitation chances will diminish as skies become partly cloudy. Overnight lows will settle into the lower 50s.

The trend toward slightly cooler conditions will continue on Tuesday. Partly sunny skies are expected, with afternoon temperatures reaching around the lower 70s. A few showers remain possible during the day, followed by another chance for rain showers Tuesday night under mostly cloudy skies. Temperatures Tuesday night will once again fall into the lower 50s.
